SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF ART CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION
Local Visions: Reimagining the Façade
JANUARY 12, 2026
Starting 2026 with a meaningful milestone in my creative journey.

I’m honored and humbled to share that I was selected as one of ten artists by The San Diego Museum of Art @sandiegomuseumofart, located in Balboa Park, one of my most cherished places in San Diego, to participate in their 100-year anniversary celebration. The creative invitation was to reimagine the museum’s iconic façade, an extraordinary example of Old Spanish Renaissance architecture inspired by the historic façade of the University of Salamanca in Spain.

For my 8th Day Create® interpretation, I envisioned the façade as if it existed as a 19th-century lithographic print, a visual language I’ve wholeheartedly embraced over the past six years of my work. Given the richness of the ornamentation, my goal was to bring each architectural element to life through color and meticulous detail. I captured multiple reference photographs, carefully isolated every component using the pen tool in Photoshop, aligned them with near-perfect symmetry, then over traced each form in a lithographic style. From there, I introduced vintage colorways inspired by San Diego and the greater California landscape.
Once complete, each element was assembled like a puzzle to form the final composition. The process unfolded over three months and at times felt endless, yet with focus and determination, the piece reached its final form. The artwork was printed on museum-grade canvas, finished with two layers of clear varnish, and accented with my 8th Day Create® coin alongside an original 1915 San Diego Exposition stamp. Measuring 40 by 60 inches, it stands as one of the largest works I have created to date.

The façade tells a grand story that honors the past, present, and future. I will be sharing deeper historical insights and behind-the-scenes moments in upcoming posts and reels. Special edition prints and apparel are currently in production to further commemorate both this milestone and the museum’s centennial celebration over the next seven months.

The artwork will be on view at the museum from January 24 through July 26, 2026.
