Introducing our first ever curated #gallery showcase! We are proud to cordially invite you to #LivingOnTheFringes : A pop-up gallery experience.
In the 1970's in San Francisco Jeff Axelrod and artist Barry Anderson ran Hip-O Tee's, an apparel print shop with quite the extraordinary clientele list. Their first major gig was the #GratefulDead, printing the premiere original band merchandise to sell at their shows. From there on Hip-O Tee's attracted other legendary artists such as #TheBeatles, #LedZeppelin and #Santana to name a few.
The gallery features unique napkin prints of the art that were approved by the bands before printing tees en masse. These were usually band logos or album covers that had to be translated to an apparel print friendly format, which was all done by hand.
Through curating this gallery we pay homage to the pre-computer days of printing and design. From a design perspective, this truly is an unique look into the roots of band merchandise, printing, and superb illustration.
The gallery is running 7 days a week between now and October 15 at The Bakeréé @thebakereeseattlewa in #Georgetown!
Much much love and appreciation goes out to Anna from The Bakeréé for graciously holding space and to Jeff and Barry of @hippotees for allowing us to showcase your hidden gems!
